b. What funding has sustained the program?

Modest personal contributions provided the only funding until 1970. Since 1971, funding has been provided by contracts and grants from government agencies, private foundations and service clubs, as well as individual gifts (primarily former USC dental and dental hygiene students). The 1993 gift of $105,000 made by G. Donald Montgomery, a 1925 alumnus of the school, funded the first self-contained and fully equipped motor coach with wheelchair lift. The first USC/UCLA vehicle, dedicated in 1997, was funded by a $50,000 matching grant given to UCLA by Delta Dental of California and matched by USC.
