Mobile-Portable Hybrid Rochester's Collaborative School-Based Dental Program
f. What are some program operation considerations?

To ensure efficiency, most functions are done on the mobile unit. Autoclaves are available for sterilization on-site rather than transporting instruments back to the main facility. Charts (paper or paperless) are maintained on the unit, and inventory is stored directly on the unit and not transported each day.
All health history, consent, and HIPAA forms are distributed a minimum of one month prior to the Smilemobile's arrival. This allows the coordinator and dentist time to assemble new charts when necessary and follow-up on any medical concerns.

The program is an excellent opportunity for dental health education and promotion. Most of the participating children complete all necessary dental treatment in the shortest amount of time, with minimal loss of class time, no loss of parent's work-time and no transportation costs.
